England Prime Minister Joe Root is finally continuing his one-Test tenure with the first Ashes of one of the second Ashes 2025-26 Tests at the Gabba in Brisbane. Root made 40 per cent of his 40th Test from 181 balls, but incredibly, in 30 innings in Australia, he had previously reached 10 fifties and a best of 89.
The milestone sent a wave of emotion across the ground and on social media, with England fans celebrating the moment they have waited nearly a decade to witness.
Walking with England at 5/2, Joe Root masterminds a rescue act
Root came into a high-pressure situation after Mitchell Starc dismissed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope before taking England to 5.
The 34-year-old stood up alongside Zak Crawley, sharing a vital century partnership that halted Australia’s momentum under the pink ball. As wickets continued to fall at the other end against the pace trio of Starc, Scott Boland and Michael Neserin PACE, Root held England together, heading competitively in difficult twilight conditions.
His innings, studded with 11 fours, showed impeccable control against seam, swing and bounce. It was career-defining, but also the kind of build-up, high-quality batting that England desperately needed.
Fans, former players celebrate Root’s ‘Career-Completion’ moment
Root’s century immediately became one of the highlights of the series. Within minutes, bursting with cheery messages, respect and emotional reactions from the visitors, another glittering test career was thrilled to have crossed a major hurdle.
Many fans called it “the moment of the ashes”, while others labeled it “Britain’s greatest modern corpse” root – boosted by another big occasion performance.
Former Australian Open Matthew HaydenRoot had jokingly run around the mcg naked in case he couldn’t hit the ton ton this round. Hayden admitted with humor “No one has skin in the game” The long-awaited hundred when it comes to root.
Root’s career in Australia has been fraught with unusual but barrenness for centuries. This hundred not only fills the most glaring gap in his Ashes record, but also places him among the great foreign performers of the modern game.
Here are the terrible reactions of the root:

Joe root is pure class only. I don’t understand the rest of the team keeping Starc playing crazy visions outside of starc. Just see what he has mastered.

It was only a matter of time. He is a very good player who is not one hundred percent in Australia.
Joe Root is a special one as he continues to deliver in the toughest format of the game #Aşlar
