The World Cup and the Women’s Sport icon have gained any possible appreciation on the field. But, sometimes, the whole girl wants is a sandwich.
Golf: Have you entered the early Golf or did you mainly play football as a kid?
Brandi Chastain: My grandfather loved the golf and I wanted to be with my grandfather. He would take me for lunch in the local leadership rank in San Jose (Calif.), And for me to get lunch, I had to hit the balls first. So this is what I did. We have never played the course, anyway. Isn’t that so funny?
G: Do you remember the name of the place?
BC: Oh, Gosh, nor does it exist anymore. I don’t even know the name. It was a route range with a short executive course. There were excellent club sandwiches, and my grandfather loved him.
G: As soon as it became clear that football was your sport, did you still play Golf or did it not have time?
BC: When I was in college (I didn’t play golf). But I was once on the national team and a professional player, I played more golf because it was my way to do something that didn’t get a lot of physical energy, but it was a good mental test for me.
G: Now you are the owner of a TGL franchise. How has this been?
BC: I’m very happy to be a part of it. That is why I invested in TMRW Sports and Bay Area Golf Club. What I loved for this is, one, I love golf.
G: What do you like most about the new league?
BC: I think what I want for TGL is that I see these very polished professionals who, when they are in PGA Tour, must be aware of traditions and labels. In TGL, they are required to be calm and to be themselves. There are some who are really good at it, and some who are really difficult. So, I think it will bring more personality. We will have fun. I think everyone can relate to that.
G: Do you think out -of -course activities like TGL and Topgolf can actually bring more people to sports?
BC: Well, I think it makes it accessible. I think the number one thing for most people is access, right? If you don’t have access, you can’t. So for some people with (a full round) golf is probably the time factor – four to five hours is a lot of time, really. Maybe it’s too expensive to become a member of a golf course or maybe a golf round is very expensive. But go to Topgolf or maybe see TGL tease you, and you think, Well, maybe I’ll try it.
G: awesome. You are known for one of the most iconic field celebrations of all time (1999 World Cup, above). Have you ever wondered about re-creation of it if you made a hole in one?
