For years, Rees Jones He was known as the open doctor, the mantle he inherited from his father, Robert Trent Jones Sr. Moniker made sense. Like his famous father in front of him, Jones had become an architect for the updates of the championship’s main placements. Prior to 1993 US Open in Baltusrol, for example, Jones renovated the lowest course of the club, adding lengths and refining bunkers to improve the challenge of making and strategy. He would later perform similar commissions in Torrey pinesCongress and Bethpage Black. There were others, including Atlanta’s athletic club. But you get the point. If nips and tucks would be needed to try the best in the world, the doctor was your son.
But Jones has never treated exclusively in mega dose models. And he is now describing something very different. His newest project, footwearwhich opened in July, is a friendly test for the rest of us: a 9 PAR-3 holes in the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA., a property that already holds the oppression of the Jones family. Rees’ father designed the golden course of the club in 1963; Rees himself returned years later to build the green course next door. The shoes fit next to them, with holes that range from 43 to 137 yards. It opened in collaboration with a 14,000 -square -meter placement course, created in a similar fun style.
The shoes stepped in with a wider trend in Golf. In Top Resort all over the country, from Pinhurst to bandon to Streamsong and Kohrler, PAR-3 and short courses have become the rabies-babes of an industry that is awakened in their value as affordable, accessible and sustainable entertainment.
The governing bodies are fully on board. To more faithfully reflect on how the game is played today, the USA and R&A have updated The world handicap system So rounds nine-holes and par-3 count to indexes (if you don’t have a handicap, you can sign up for a here). Of course, big, bold appearances still count as well. And you need to post those results as well. But sometimes, when you have golf bug, nine holes are all the medicines you need.
