It seems like every celebrity is taking up golf these days. From Jimmy Fallon to Travis Kelce and even Niall Horan, it feels like everyone has the golf bug.
Since the last few years, you can add former NBA pro Blake Griffin on that list.
Griffin, a six-time NBA All-Star, explained on this week’s episode of GOLF’s Subpar that as he reached the final years of his career, he decided he needed a competitive outlet outside of basketball.
“I was like, dude, me need a competitive exit,” he said. “Or I could become a psychopath.”
That outlet turned out to be on.
“I just made the decision,” Griffin said. “I went and suited up for several clubs. I didn’t really have a swing – or a good swing, I still don’t – but I played my first round and probably shot 120-something.’ I said, ‘No, I have to get better at this. I can’t be that bad.’
So far, he has found success in that quest. Just three years after taking up the game, Griffin has already lowered his handicap index to 13. This past summer, he even scored his first win on the celebrity circuit as he won Invitation at 8 am in Las Vegas.
“I have days where I’m like, ‘Man, this feels good,'” he said. “And then I have days where I’m like, ‘Me I can’t.’”
This is a truth all of them golfers can relate to.
