Arun Dhumal along with Avishek Dalmiya will be re-elected as members of the IPL Governing Council (GC). According to reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that both the officials will be elected unopposed as there is no other candidate against them.
Annual General Meeting (AGM). Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will all be held in Bengaluru on Sunday (September 29). There are several agenda items to be discussed and item B of the agenda reads: “Election and appointment of 2 (two) representatives of the General Body to the IPL Governing Council”.
According to the constitutional requirement, both Arun Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya have nominated the same candidates. Both will retain their positions and continue in their roles. This means that Dhumal will continue as IPL chairman for at least another year.
Reports claimed that the IPL governing council would discuss the matter before the BCCI AGM. They will also address key issues such as player retention and salary cap ahead of the mega auction expected to take place in November this year.
BCCI is also likely to announce the retention rules soon. It has been claimed that IPL franchises will be allowed to keep 5 along with one RTM card. They will also be given 115-120 million purses.
Chamundeswaranath will also be reappointed as the Cricketers Association of India’s representative on the IPL governing council
Item C of the agenda of the General Meeting is also related to the governing board of IPL. This is due to the involvement of a representative from the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA). The same person will continue in this part. Former Andhra and South Zone cricketer Chamundeswaranath has been nominated again by the ICA. ICA Secretary Hitesh Muzumdar confirmed the development.
The appointment of the BCCI representative to the BCCI will be one of the agendas of the general meeting. This refers to Clause Q: “To appoint the BCCI’s Representative or Representatives to the International Cricket Council (ICC) or similar body.”
Jay Shah is currently a representative of the world organization. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) needs a new role as Shah is set to become the Independent Chairman of the ICC. Reports claimed that two representatives could be elected.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India will also look to bring in a new secretary after Jay Shah. But the issue will not be a part of this YGM. After Shah steps down, the governing body will hold a Special General Meeting (SGM).
The Extraordinary General Meeting is expected to take place in November. The governing body will have 45 days to choose a new secretary, meaning the incumbent is expected to be elected on January 15. On the other hand, Jay Shah will take over the post of ICC chairman from December 1.
