Real Sociedad sporting director Roberto Olabe has confidently revealed that he expects highly-rated midfielder Martin Zubimendi to stay at San Sebastian despite transfer interest from a host of Premier League clubs.
arsenalManchester City and Liverpool have been attributed to all who have cast an admiring glance in Zubimendi’s direction. Arne Slot’s Premier League leaders came closer to landing the Euro 2024 champions in the summer only for the 25-year-old opt for distancing from the club of his childhood.
It has been reported that Zubimendi was placed at City short list of January transfer targetswhile Arsenal are also believed to be monitoring an immensely talented player who has a relatively modest release clause of €60m (£50m).
Every player in the League must have a termination clause in their contract, but it can only be technically activated by the individual in question. This puts all the power in the hands of the player.
Olabe is confident that Zubimendi will not push for a move in the upcoming winter window.
“There is little peace of mind with the clauses, but in all this time MartÃn himself has shown us that the previous clauses are intentions,” said the sporting director to the assembled media.
“Until today we have already seen the behavior that has been demonstrated, I do not foresee that we will have scares in January.”
Whether Zubimendi will continue at La Real at the start of next season is much less certain. Olabe, for what it’s worth, will have moved on. The highly rated sporting director will step down from his role in June and is believed to be a Arsenal target.
