Arsenal are reportedly one of the clubs at the head of the queue for the potential transfer of Lille striker Jonathan David, along with Tottenham and Newcastle United.
The Canadian international has impressed in his time in Ligue 1 and has often been the subject of plenty of transfer rumors linking him with Premier League clubs, although nothing has materialized for him so far.
according to Everything Juvethere is interest in him from Juventus, although their report claims that clubs such as Arsenal are expected to lead the race for David’s signature, possibly due to their high wage demands.
Arsenal could certainly do with another option up front at a moment’s notice, and some fans will probably be concerned that Mikel Arteta doesn’t have a natural No.9 in his squad.
Arsenal have mainly used Kai Havertz there and he has performed well, although it remains to be seen whether that is likely to be his best long-term role, while Gabriel Jesus has been inconsistent and injury-prone.
David transfer: What next for the Lille striker?
talking exclusively to Caught offside for his recent Daily Briefing columnFrench football expert Jonathan Johnson gave an insight into David’s situation, suggesting he was unlikely to sign a new contract at Lille, which of course could be a boost for Arsenal and other interested clubs .
“I wouldn’t rule out David staying at Lille, but at the same time I don’t necessarily expect him to be more open to signing a new contract there if they get to the Champions League group stage, so his future is probably still something that will need to be resolved,” Johnson said.
David could certainly be an option worth looking at for Arsenal, but if he continues to let his Lille contract run out, there are sure to be plenty of other big clubs in the running for his signature as well.
