Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha is reportedly close to agreeing a new contract in a swoop for Arsenal, Manchester United and his many other suitors.
Cunha signed for Wolves on an initial loan when the club was rooted at the feet of the Premier League table midway through the 2022/23 campaign, before joining on a permanent deal worth £44m after helping the club secure safety.

The Brazilian has somehow managed to improve this season despite the club’s collective struggles, which is inspiring strong interest from Arsenal and discuss an approach from Manchester United this January.
However, those clubs have had those ambitions quashed by multiple reports claiming that Cunha is close to agreeing a new long-term deal with Wolves. The Telegraph He writes that the striker is in “advanced talks” and an announcement should be made “within the next two weeks”.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the contract extension has been verbally agreed to and would give Cunha a raise.
Despite the 25-year-old’s best efforts, and an unbeaten start to life under new manager Vitor Pereira, Wolves remains in the last three. It has been reported that Cunha’s new deal will include a relegation break clause, which will allow rival clubs to pay a pre-agreed, and so far undisclosed, fee for the striker in the event of relegation.
Pereira made it very clear that he had no intention of sanctioning the sale of Cunha during Wolves’ fight against the drop. “I hope not, I hope not because we need him,” admitted the Portuguese coach at the end of December. “We need their quality.”
Wolves will not have the quality of Cunha in the next two games. The FA hit the Brazilian talisman with a ban following an altercation with a member of Ipswich Town’s security detail following a post-match brawl. Cunha will sit out Monday night’s league clash against Nottingham Forest and next weekend’s FA Cup third-round tie with Bristol City.
