Negotiations are usually where these fights stall. Barboza is trying to eliminate that variable before it even comes up.
Adding the Prograis-Benn winner narrows it down. That April 11 fight produces the following name. By designating the winner now, Barboza is positioning himself as the next available opponent for whoever comes out of it. No waiting period. There is no need to build a separate storyline.
The rest of the list follows the same logic. Garcia and Haney bring attention and money. Romero offers a belt and a different kind of risk. Of course, none of those fights come after a debut win over Sims, which is why the volume of calls is important. He tries to force proximity to those names rather than earn them through a second step.
Some pointed to more traditional routes. Ranked opponents like Rohan Polanco or Tiger Johnson will move him forward in a cleaner way. Barboza has shown no interest in that path. Every move since Saturday has aimed higher.
This is a calculated pressure. Take a useful win, move fast, and try to turn it into something much bigger before the division settles in around you.
Whether it lands depends less on what he asks for and more on who is willing to answer. Right now he made himself easy to deal with. It puts the decision on everyone else.
