Arne Slot has admitted he is worried about a potential injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold after the right-back had to be substituted in the first half of the win over Aston Villa.
Goals from Darwin Núñez and Mohamed Salah he helped the Reds to a 2-0 win at Anfield on Saturday night to take them five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, although the achievement was compounded by a knock on one of their star players.
Alexander-Arnold had to come off in the 25th minute and manager Slot has revealed that he does not expect the 26-year-old to be available for England’s Nations League games during the upcoming international break in November.
Speaking after the win, the Dutchman revealed: “It’s hard to say how bad it is, but it’s always bad if a player goes off in the first half. Not because I didn’t like it, but because he asked for it himself .
“He didn’t ask because he was tired, he asked because he felt something.
“First of all, it’s not a good sign, but it’s always difficult so close after the game to tell you exactly what it is. We’ll see.
“I’d be surprised if we see him play for England this week, but I hope he can.”
Liverpool they already have a number injury concernswith the likes of Alisson, Federico Chiesa, Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott all currently out. Alexis Mac Allister, who admitted the Reds are now firm Premier League title contenders after his last win, he is also one yellow card away from a ban.
Alexander-Arnold was included in caretaker manager Lee Carsley’s squad for the upcoming clashes with Greece and the Republic of Ireland, but the Three Lions will now have to assess the defender before deciding whether he can play in either game.
