Maria Jose Marin had a company in extension, but her herd game never gave anyone a chance to get close.
Arkansas Sophomori closed Golf Championship for NCAA Women with one three under 69 years of age to win the title di individual in North Course Omni La Costa Resort & Spa’s North On Monday, becoming the third razorback that took home individual honors. It joins Maria Fassi (2019) and Stacy Lewis (2007).
“I have mixed emotions, and the strongest is that I am very happy now,” Jose Marin told reporters. “I trust my game in every single blow. I knew I was capable of a great round and was.”
Jose Marin shot 70 and 72 in the first two rounds, but she withdrew forward with a free, seven under 65 on Sunday. This gave her the lead with 54 holes, and she played the last round along with Catherine Park of USC and Mirabel Ting of the state in Florida, who both started her third day.
But Jose Marin came out resting. She made birds in the opening hole Monday and turned to three under. Her only Bogey came to PAR-4 13, but she closed her round with a bird at the par-5 end.
Sing, the world’s second rank amateur, began slow, but shot 31 in nine back to get inside two and get the second solo.
Keeping the club’s superiority in 12 under, Jose Marin had to wait to see if anyone would catch her. Kelly Xu of Stanford had a blow while she reached 10 under 11 (and was traversed by one at the time), but she Bogey 12 and made double to 16 to shoot 71 and get the third.
The third victory of the year for Jose Marin, who ranks 10th. Last year she also won the playing part of the American women’s amateur and progressed in the semifinals before she had to withdraw due to injury.
Monday’s victory also won another start – it is now excluded next week of the US Women’s Open at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.
