Andy Cruz today complained about champions fighting “excuses to avoid”. In a cryptic post on Instagram, the unbeaten IBF lightweight mandatory challenger Cruz (6-0, 3 COs) showed that he indicated that negotiations with IBF champion Raymond Muratalla were not going well.
Muratalla Avoid Cruz IBF fight?
Cruz and Muratalla were reportedly in talks to fight on the 22nd card in Riyadh. The event was announced today, but the Muratalla-Cruz fight was not named in the post of Turki Alalshikh, which revealed the news.
It would not be a shock if Muratalla (23-0, 17 CO’s) prefers to make a voluntary defense of his IBF title to milk it once or twice before ordering to defend against Cruz. His chances of defeating the talented Olympic gold medal of 2020 Cruz would be slim.
Andy may have to forget about Muratalla for the time being and go in a different direction. Cruz is at the tip of 1 with the WBC for the belt owned by Shakur Stevenson. He should put some heat on him for a fight.
Their mutual promoter, Eddie Hearn, probably won’t go with the idea, because he signed Stevenson to land that Geronta Davis is fighting. It is a fight that would bring millions in. The last thing Hearn wants is that Andy Cruz Shakur beats, exposes him and destroys his chances of fighting Davis.
“The day I become world champion, I will defend my title against whom it is, because that is what champions are – to defend them, no matter who it is,” Andy Cruz said on Instagram.
“These so -called champions are looking for excuses to prevent someone from facing and prefers to look for alternatives. Boxing is for fighters, not for names. Contracts sent to me will sign because I came to this country to fight with someone,” Cruz said.
Andy Cruz: Most avoid lightweight?
Many people consider the Cuban Cruz as the no. 1 -fighter at lightweight, and one that is already avoided like the pest.
None of the so -called top names want any part of the fight against Cruz. Muratalla would be over his head against a competent fighter like Andy. He is too good for his own sake. Even Shakur Stevenson, who claims to be the best at 135, has no interest in Andy Cruz. It is understandable why.
