Andriy Lunin “makes a surprise decision” for the contract with Real Madrid

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has agreed a new long-term contract with the Spanish side, reports have revealed.

Lunin has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal and was expected to leave on a free transfer next summer in search of regular first-team football, having spent the past four years deputizing for Thibaut Courtois.

When the Belgian fell injured Last summer, Lunin fought off competition from on-loan Kepa Arrizabalaga to make 31 appearances in all competitions, only to be dropped for the Champions League final when Courtois returned.

A move away from the club this year did not materialise, however, instead of allowing his contract to expire, MARC The Lunin state has now agreed to a new four-year deal.

Lunin had put renewal negotiations on hold in the summer amid concerns over his long-term role in the squad, but appears to have been persuaded to stay and continue to battle it out with Courtois, who has started every game so far this season

It is noted that Lunin could still be sold in 2025 if an attractive offer arrives, but for now, the Ukraine international is focused on adding to his 48 appearances for the club.

News of Lunin’s extension could have a significant impact on Chelsea, who welcomed Kepa back this summer after his loan expired.

Kepa wanted to go back Madrid this summer and the Spanish side were happy to try to reach an agreement if Lunin left. When no bids arrived, Kepa signed a new one-year deal and joined Bournemouth on loan for the rest of the season.
