The dismissal came in the 5th over of the Adelaide Strikers’ innings at the Adelaide Oval. Jason Behrendorff brought a length behind to Jake Weatherald, who was trying to work him to mid-on. However, Tye had other plans, placing himself perfectly in the middle.
In a jaw-dropping display of athleticism and reflexes, Andrew Tye made an incredible leap up the middle, extending his right hand to catch the ball mid-air. Tye landed safely with the ball in hand to complete a spectacular catch to secure Weatherald’s exit.
Jake Weatherald’s aggressive batting effort resulted in his dismissal for 8 runs off 8 balls with a boundary to his name. However, despite being an expensive bowler for Perth Scorchers, it was the remarkable efforts of Andrew Tye who stole the show in the first innings of the BBL 2024-25 clash.

The Australian bowler conceded 46 runs in four overs and took just one wicket, but Jhye Richardson’s three-wicket haul and combined efforts from Jason Behrendorff (2/14) and Lance Morris (2/19) saw the Scorchers pip the Strikers for 142 helped limit. /8 at Adelaide Oval.
Highlights of the Adelaide Strikers vs Perth Scorchers match
The Adelaide Strikers have had a tough start, slumping to 58 for 8 at home. However, a solid ninth wicket partnership of 84* between Cameron John Boyce (29* off 22 balls) and Brendan Doggett (47* off 39 balls) helped them post a competitive total of 142/8 in 20 overs.
Perth’s chase started poorly, Matty Hurst and lost Aaron Hardie early on, both dropped by Henry Thornton for 2 runs. However, Finn Allen and Josh Connolly revived the innings with aggressive batting. Connolly’s unbeaten 35 off 48 balls kept the chase on track.

Allen and Connolly shared an 84-run partnership and Connolly continued after Allen was dismissed for 50. Ashton Turner35 off 18 balls. The pair added 57 runs to help Perth chase down the target in just 15 overs, beating the Adelaide Strikers by seven wickets in their BBL 2024-25 clash. It was the Strikers’ third consecutive loss in the ongoing BBL 2024-25.
After winning Man of the Match, Cooper Connolly said: “They bounced back nicely. We were happy at the halfway mark. It was nice to get some runs. We were hoping Allen would get a run. It was nice to contribute to that. We’ll be home for a few games.
