Andrew Novak has no plans next week.
This can change on Sunday.
30-year-old PGA Tour Pro has only played in a big one in his career and has never attracted him to the masters. Novak entered the week at Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio You have to win to score his ticket to see first of the year. Entering the sixth shots of Brian Harman’s back on Saturday, Novak’s chances looked dark.
But with the Texas winds shaking up to 25 km / h, Novak did what little they could on Saturday and got up on the board.
He went out to one and but scored five birds in the ninth rear to shoot with three under and to climb within three of Harman’s shooting, who shot on Saturday.
Novak was one of the only seven players to shoot under Saturday. He was a shot from the day of the day, which was shot by Tom Hoge.
“It was difficult,” Novak said after the round. “I played really well. I was sure not to put myself in any catastrophic point. I definitely had lucky a few times when I lost and I did a lot of strokes when I needed it. I’m not surprised at all that there were many rounds under it, this course was playing really difficult.”
One of those lucky holidays came to the Para-3 16 hole when he exploded Tee fired on the right towards the ancestors. But the ball pulled out of the construction and rolled in green, giving Novak a five pedestrian for Birdie he buried.
I was like a 5-Hakuri today with being in the wind and I pushed it, the wind caught it, “Novak said about the hit at 16.” Of course not a great shot, but I know if it’s there, there is space, it can be okay. I didn’t expect it to start again and go to green, it was definitely funny. Not best and sometimes golf rewards you. “
Not many players were rewarded Saturday at TPC San Antonio.
Daniel Berger fired a Front-Nine’s 40. Matt Wallace came out to 41. Sam Ryder shot 77 in the last group. JT Post also shot 77.
Hoge was the only player without Bogey on the field, climbing 19 points to get within four Harman.
“It was difficult,” Hoge said. “The wind completely opposite to the last two days, so it made a little more thoughts to understand the new golf course. As I said, even the descent holes were a challenge because the ball was dancing so much.
Harman opened the day with Bogeys at no. 2 and no. 4 but stood the ship and made nine in a row in front of a bird in 15.
The 38-year-old has not won since the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, where he entered Sunday with great lead and had to remove a host of chassers in poor weather.
He will go back to that experience on Sunday when he will take it to the TPC San Antonio, but he knows he will be best asked to keep a package behind him in the bay – with Novak, seeing a trip to Augusta NationalThe boss between them.
“I certainly know I can do it,” Harman said after Saturday’s round. “But the boys who are behind me, they are hungry, man, they are coming. Many guys who have not won, boys who have won several times, good players, so I will have to play really well tomorrow.”
