
Andrea Pavan was injured in an off-course accident while in South Africa for this week’s DP World Tour event, according to multiple reports.
DP World Tour confirmed Bunkered that Pavan withdrew due to injury, but gave no further details.
According to Ryan French of Monday Q Infowhich cited multiple sources, Pavan “fell down the elevator shaft after the doors opened on the floor he was on, but the car itself was not there.” French said he fell several stories, but sources told him the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening and that he has already undergone surgery. Jacek Pearson, a Czech sports commentator, posted on Twitter that Pavan’s condition is stable.
Martin Dempster i Scotsman reported that the accident happened at Pavan’s private accommodation and not an official tour accommodation.
This week’s DP World Tour stop is the Investec South African Open in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Richie Ramsay replaced Pavan in the field.
Pavan, 36, has won twice on the DP World Tour. The Italian protester played in the US Open at Oakmont last year, not participating. He was also part of Texas A&M’s 2009 NCAA championship team.
