Andre Ward’s necessary heavyweight opponents to justify a fight with Anthony Joshua

Andre Ward said this week that he would come out of the pension to encounter Anthony Joshua “If the business was right.” The offer was met with a sarcastic response from former double-edged heavyweight champion Joshua and said: ‘Payment Day Payment Day (Canelo vote).

For the 41-year-old ward (32-0, 16 COs) to be taken seriously, he must come out of his eight-year retirement and beat one or preferably two top heavyweight contenders.

Heavyweight opponents for Ward

Joseph Parker
Richard Torrez Jr.
Lenier but
Agit Kabayel
Zhilei Zhang
Philip Hrgovic
Daniel but
Bakhodir Jalalov
Daniel Dubois
Martin Bakole

Can Andre Ward defeat any of these heavyweights if he hurled himself in shape? During his lead, Ward was known for throwing a few shots, followed by an immediate clinic. The technique is referred to as ‘The punch and grab‘Style. It works, but it’s boring to look at.

The strategy was effective for Ward during his career, which allowed him to stay unbeaten and conquer world titles at super -middle weight and light heavyweight. However, it is doubtful that it would be effective in heavyweight. Even an older heavyweight like 42-year-old Zhilei Zhang would drop Ward time, and nail him with a big shot as he goes forward to hold on.

Ward’s return: Legacy of payday?

Ward has been out of the sport since 2017, and there is not much interest from boxing fans to look at the former 168 and 175 pound world champion after eight years for a money grab to make his retirement more luxurious.

“If the business was right, and everything was on that front, Anthony Joshua and I, it’s a fight I would take at Wembley Stadium,” Andre Ward said on Instagram. “It’s a fight that would find me in the gym and get me in the mindset that I have to go to war.”
