Andre Ward says people have a “Grease campaign” to try and ‘Bury’ Terence Crawford led to his title fight against the undisputed super -middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez last Saturday night in Las Vegas, Crawford.
Ward says that ‘They’ Crawford (42-0, 31 CO’s) said that Crawford was not a draw and could not speak. He did not mention that fans believe that Crawford has no charisma, a dull fighting style, rarely fighting and has a minimal presence on social media.
Has Crawford changed any thoughts?
It is doubtful whether Crawford changed the fan’s perception of him after last Saturday, as his actions against Canelo (63-3-2, 39 COs) were at low level. He is constantly moving, rarely fascinating and does not stand in the trenches to make the fight exciting.
Turki Alalshikh said at the last press conference: “I want to see blood, faces and broken legs.” How could we see some of this with Crawford running across the creation this past Saturday?
Ward’s emotional defense of Crawford
“They tried to bury Terence Crawford to say was not a draw when the numbers were there for you to see. It was a smear campaign with his personality. “He doesn’t talk. No one wants to hear him. “No, you don’t want to hear him,” said an emotionally sounding Andre Ward on the All the smoke Channel, is being worked on Terence Crawford’s victory over Canelo Alvarez.
Crawford was not a big draw, and numbers reflect it. Before the fight from last Saturday with Canelo, the only time Terence pulled large crowds when he fought Errol Spence and when he fought at home in Omaha, Nebraska.
Crawford’s attendance
- Israil Madrimov (2024): attendance numbers not announced at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. However, there are reports of 4,000 tickets given away.
- Jeff Horn (2018): 8,112 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas
- Jose benavidez jr. (2018): 13.323 in the Chi Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
- Egidijus Cavaliauskas (2019): 10.101 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The capacity for boxing events at MSG is 20.789.
- Kell Brook (2020): No crowd due to the fight that takes place during Covid.
- Shawn Porter (2021): 11.568 at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.
- Errol Spence Jr. (2023): 19.900 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
“I don’t hear the smear campaign. He said, ‘Give me my lap. I’m going to show you, ‘and he did it against Canelo again,’ says Ward.
The reality of his career
What is Ward talking about? Crawford got his shots on titles all the time. How did Crawford become a world champion of four divisions before fighting Canelo if he didn’t get his chances of fighting? The only time Crawford had to wait for a chance to fight for a world title was when he tried to get a collision against Errol Spence.
When Crawford first moved to Welterweight, he received an immediate title shot against WBO champion Jeff Horn on June 9, 2018. Crawford doesn’t have to wait, and he wasn’t blocked. It was his first fight in the division. To make Crawford sound like a victim does not set the reality of his situation. He was treated like gold from the beginning.
The reality is that Terence has not earned a title against Canelo for the undisputed Super Middleweight Championship because he has never fought in the weight class.
Question the fairness of the struggle
Turki Alalshikh made the fight with his money, but it was completely onpoort and unfair to the contenders like Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez, so Crawford got the green light to move two weight classes, Leapfrog over them to get a straight title.
I don’t believe Crawford could ever have earned a title shot if he had to defeat Mbilli, Martinez or Osleys Iglesias to face Canelo at 168. In my opinion, the run that Bud did against Canelo would not have worked against the three shareholders. They would have come to Crawford and showed what happened if you jumped two weight classes on 38.
The fight should not have been sanctioned as a professional competition. It was an exhibition-like Gimmick fight that made a mockery of the sport.
