The Boston Red Sox were one of the teams in talks with top free agent Juan Soto this offseason, but they were unable to sign him.
Now that Soto has decided to sign with the New York Mets, the Red Sox will have to look elsewhere if they want to add to their roster before the 2025 season.
While there is still plenty of free agent talent, another possibility is a trade for another offensive weapon.
MLB analyst Tom Caron names one player he thinks the Red Sox will trade this offseason.
“I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Masataka Yoshida was dealt,” Caron said, via MLB Network X.

Caron notes that the Red Sox have a lot of talent and that Yoshida will likely be their designated hitter when he returns from his injury next season.
Yoshida entered the league with the Red Sox in 2023 and played the last two seasons with the team.
In 2024, Yoshida played in 108 games for the Red Sox, where he hit .280 with 10 home runs, 56 RBI and a .765 OPS.
It is also noted that Yoshida’s swing does not play well at Fenway Park, which includes the green monster in left field.
The Red Sox could set their sights on right-handed power hitters such as Teoscar Hernandez of the Los Angeles Dodgers or Alex Bregman of the Houston Astros.
Caron doesn’t believe the Red Sox will get much in return for Yoshida, but they just don’t have room for him next season.
