With the 2025 PGA Tour season now in full swing in Hawaii, anticipation for the action to come is already building. What can we expect to see this year? In this week’s episode of Subpar, hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz offered some bold predictions.
“I’ll concede, for my bold 2025 prediction, Luke Clanton playing on the US Ryder Cup team,” Stoltz said.
A bold stance indeed, but not entirely impossible. The top-ranked amateur — who currently plays collegiately for Florida State — nearly wrapped up his PGA Tour card last year through PGA Tour University with four top-10 finishes, including two runner-up finishes. A top-five finish this week at the Sony Openwhere he is playing with a sponsor’s exemption, would seal the deal on the Tour card.
“Given what he’s done on the PGA Tour last year, he’s going to have some starts, he’s going to have some opportunities early this year,” Stoltz continued. “I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility for him to go there and win something. It will not be at the Signature Events. He’ll play, you know, the other events.
“He’s close to doing it already. And I think if he goes and wins one time and fights and plays well, as a friend, this guy will be on the team. I mean, when it comes to that 11, 12 spot, why wouldn’t you slide a guy in there?”
Clanton brings a lot to the table, Stoltz said.
“The sheer firepower, hitting the bombs, makes it great,” he said. “It’s not impossible.”
Knost liked what Stoltz had to say, but went in a different direction for his prediction.
“I want (2025) to be the year of positivity,” Knost said. “Good things will happen. It’s been a tough few years for golf. So my bold prediction is an agreement will be reachedwe will see LIV players playing in PGA Tour events before the year is out.
“Not saying it’s going to happen right away,” Knost continued. “But before the season is over, we’re going to see Jon Rahm, we’re going to see Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson playing on the PGA Tour. Everything will work out, everyone will be happy and it will be a great 2025.”
“I’m working hard on it,” Stoltz replied.
Before continuing, Stoltz added another prediction.
“David Puig on the European (Ryder Cup) team,” he said.
“Yeah, I like him,” Knost replied. “I actually think that will happen.”
Regardless of who ends up on the American and European teams this fall, one thing is certain: Both Knost and Stoltz envision this year’s Ryder Cup as one for the ages.
“That’s the one I’m most looking forward to in 2025,” Stoltz said. “I think it might be a mess, by the way. But it will be fine.”
