The Toronto Blue Jays finished last in the American League East in 2024.
Since they reside in one of the best divisions in baseball, they will need to stay aggressive in the offseason to stay competitive.
The Blue Jays were one of the teams in talks with top free agent Juan Soto, but he ended up signing a big contract with the New York Mets.
After a less-than-glamorous start to the offseason that saw the Blue Jays acquire several lesser-known players, there is one player they are looking to keep for the foreseeable future.
“The Jays are trying to sign an extension with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.,” MLB insider Ken Rosenthal said, via Foul Territory .

Guerrero debuted with the Blue Jays in 2019, and the first baseman has played all six seasons of his career with them.
The four-time All-Star had another productive year in 2024 as he played in 159 games and batted .323 with 30 home runs, 103 RBI and a .940 OPS.
Guerrero is expected to return to the Blue Jays for the 2025 season, but is set to become a free agent after the season.
Rosenthal questions how much money the Blue Jays would need to sign Guerrero after seeing how much Soto got from the Mets.
Guerrero is a name to watch to see if the Blue Jays can come to an agreement to extend his stay in Toronto.
