An insider says if 1 MLB team spends money, they could be special

Baseball is on green grass background

The Chicago Cubs missed the postseason for the fourth straight time in 2024, finishing with an 83-79 record.

After winning the World Series in 2016, the Cubs made the postseason only three times in the next eight seasons.

As the Cubs weigh their options ahead of the 2025 season, MLB Insider revealed his thoughts on the team.

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal made a powerful statement regarding Cubs management and their spending on the team.

“They have the ability, if they spend some money, to be a special team,” Rosenthal said.

The Cubs have won three World Series titles in franchise history, but they haven’t won the National League Central since 2020, the last time they made the postseason.

Rosenthal says the Cubs could be a special team in the National League if they spend some money to upgrade their roster in the offseason.

This year’s free agent class is loaded with talent, so the players are there if the organization decides to be aggressive with their spending.

With the Shota Imanaga emergency in 2024, the Cubs got some help in their rotation, but they could use at least another solid starting pitcher.

Some of the notable starters this offseason include Corbin Burns, Max Fried, Rocky Sasaki and Jack Flaherty.

The Cubs will need some acquisitions this offseason if they want to contend with the Milwaukee Brewers, who have won the NL Central in three of the last four seasons.

Cubs fans will have to wait and see if the organization decides to spend the money needed to improve the roster.
