An insider believes the Mets could make another big free agency move

The New York Mets finished second in the National League East and had a strong playoff run after finishing 89-73.

After losing the National League Championship Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Mets went into the offseason to add some pieces for the 2025 season.

The Mets made as much noise as they could by signing top free agent Juan Soto from the New York Yankees to a 15-year, $765 million contract.

After signing Soto, MLB insider Jon Heyman revealed that he believes the Mets may pursue free agent third baseman Alex Bregman.

“At this point, I’m not going to rule Bregman out for the Big Team,” Heyman said via Channel X’s B/R Walk-Off.

Bregman talk has picked up recently.

Teams such as the Mets, Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers have mentioned him as interested.

Heyman points out that the Mets could pivot from pursuing Pete Alonso to Bregman, but he notes that’s pure speculation at this point.

Billionaire Steve Cohen owns the Mets, so the team’s spending cap is unknown, but it could be a significant sum.

Bregman played all nine seasons with the Houston Astros, but could be traded in 2025.

With the Astros in 2024, Bregman played 145 games and batted .260 with 26 home runs, 75 RBI and a .768 OPS.

The Mets will be a team to watch as the baseball world waits for Bregman to sign with the team.
