The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason for the first time in three seasons after they finished with a 74-88 record.
After losing in the wild-card round the previous two years, the Blue Jays had high hopes for 2024, but ended up in last place in the American League East.
The Blue Jays will need to make some moves this offseason if they want to take the division from the New York Yankees, who made the World Series in 2024.
One option to get an advantage over the Yankees would be to sign one of their best players, Juan Soto, who is a free agent.
While the Yankees and New York Mets appear to be the favorites to land Soto, MLB analyst Jim Duquette thinks otherwise.
“You can’t rule out the Blue Jays,” Duquette said via SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio.
“I’ve heard from a lot of people who think Toronto will be the highest offer (for Juan Soto).

Many believe the team that ends up signing Soto will be the one that offers him the most money.
Duquette says he’s heard from a lot of people who believe the Blue Jays could be the highest bidder for the superstar.
Adding Soto would give the Blue Jays a huge advantage over the Yankees in one of baseball’s most competitive divisions.
Soto played 157 games for the Yankees in 2024 and batted .288 with 41 home runs, 109 RBI and a .989 OPS.
A lineup including Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Soto could be just what the Blue Jays need to win their first AL East title since 2015.
