The Chicago Cubs are one of the only major league teams not to win the free agent prize, superstar shortstop Juan Soto, but that doesn’t mean the team isn’t looking to make significant improvements this offseason.
After a solid 83-79 season, the Cubs are on the upswing, and one analyst recently revealed the areas the team needs to improve this offseason.
Speaking to “Hot Stove” on MLB Network, former Cub Ryan Dempster liked the idea of signing a star, especially at third base, with Alex Bregman mentioned as a possibility, while noting the importance of spending money on the starting rotation.

Matt Vasgersian doesn’t see the Cubs spending big on Soto, Bregman or anyone else this offseason and believes the team will continue to grow organically and make improvements at home.
The Cubs shouldn’t be robbed in free agency this offseason, as their top players hitting the open market include Patrick Wisdom, Drew Smiley, Hector Neris, Albert Alzolay and Nick Madrigal, along with Kyle Hendricks, who has already signed With the Los Angeles Angels.
The club acquired Isaac Paredes at the trade deadline last offseason, so his presence makes the prospect of signing Bregman unlikely unless the team gets creative to fit him.
Cody Bellinger’s name has also been in trade rumors, but it’s still early in the offseason and it’s unclear how legitimate those reports are.
It’s still unclear what the Cubs intend to do this offseason, but the hope is that they will aggressively build for their beautiful 2024 season.
