Paris – American tennis has destroyed a record that stayed in Roland-Garros for 40 years. Eight Americans – five women, three men – have reached the 16th bachelors in French Open for the first time in 40 years.
The last time Roland-Garros the fourth round presented eight or more American players was 1985, also with five women and three men.
On the women’s side, Coco gafff, Madison Keys, Jessica Pegula, Amanda Animova AND Hailey baptiste reached the fourth round. On the side of the men, Tommy Paul, Ben Shelton AND Frances Tiophoe did it through.
American men have settled three in the second week for the first time since 1995. All three Americans will be in action Sunday in Paris, with Shelton taking Alcaraz, Paul opposite Alexei Popyr and Tiefoe opposite Daniel Altmaier.
On the part of the women, Animova will face Aryna Sabalenka on Sunday.
Keys will face Baptist in a comprehensive clash on Monday, Pegula will take over Boisson, France, while Gauff will face Russia’s Alexandrova Ekaterina.
