Kerr top scored 78 off just 44 deliveries. The 25-year-old right-hander anchored the innings with remarkable composure after the first setback, hitting 11 fours and two sixes. He found an able partner in Plimmer, who made 44 off 63, including five fours and three sixes.
The pair added an astonishing 146 runs for the second wicket off just 84 deliveries, completely changing the pace of the innings and laying the foundation for an impressive total. Plimmer’s aggressive batting complemented Kerr’s delicate timing perfectly, with the duo picking apart the South African attack during the middle overs.
After the two sets were split in the 17th minute, Sophie Devine had a brief display of fireworks before falling to Ayabonga Xhaka. Brooke Halliday was 10-of-13 and Maddy Green contributed 8-of-10.
The bowling effort for South Africa was led by Masabata Klaas who returned impressive figures of 2 for 15 from four overs. Nadine de Klerk also took two wickets but was expensive, conceding 32 runs from four overs. Nonkululeko Mlaba and Xhaka claimed a wicket each, while the rest of the attack struggled to contain the New Zealand batsmen on the real Bay Oval surface.
Sophie Devine smashes South Africa’s running order
Chasing 191 for victory, South Africa’s reply never gained momentum. The Proteas lost Sune Luus (10) in the fourth over, caught by Suzie Bates off the bowling of Jess Kerr. Things went from bad to worse when captain Laura Wolvaardt fell for a duck in the next over, caught by the same bowler by Maddy Green, leaving South Africa reeling at 2 for 17.
Annerie Dercksen and Tazmin Brits tried to rebuild by adding 24 runs for the third wicket, but the pace required continued to rise. Derksen’s streak of 7-for-16 came to an end in the ninth when Rosemary Mair and goaltender Gaze ran out of steam.
Chloe Tryon put up a brief resistance with 9 off 12 before becoming Devine’s first victim caught by Plimmer in the 12th over. Struggling to reach 29 from 35, Tazmin’s Brits finally fell in the 15th over, caught by Kerr off Devine’s bowling, ending any faint hopes of a comeback.
Devine moved through the lower order with relentless efficiency. Nadine de Klerk (19 off 20) was bowled by Devine on 19 and Sinalo fell for a duck caught by Jafta Mair. Kayla Reineke single-handedly fought an unbeaten 24 off 18 as South Africa finished at 110 for 7.

Devine completed a magnificent spell of 4 for 12, while Jess Kerr recorded figures of 2/13 in four overs. Amelia Kerr bowled a tidy spell at 0 for 24, keeping the pressure at one end.
