Amazon sold 4,000 of these $15 golf training aids last month. Do you need one?

Every now and then, I skip the “recommended for you” section of Amazon and sort by the best sellers instead.

It’s an honest look at what real players are buying. Last month, more than 4,000 golfers bought SKLZ Golf Grip Trainer.

What is it

of SKLZ Grip Trainer attaches to your club and forces your hands into a stable position. It’s small enough to carry in your bag and fits most standard gloves.

You use it to build muscle memory so that your hands automatically find the right place every time you pick up a club.

It’s elementary, but this is an important point. Small changes in hand placement can create big problems with face control and stability.

Why it’s worth talking about

If you think a grip trainer sounds too simple to consider, here’s something to consider: Scottie Scheffler uses a grip-focused training aid in his practice sessions. His version is not this exact tool. It’s more of a training grip installed on an extra club, but the concept is identical. Control your basics, even when you’re the best player in the world.

If the world’s most consistent ball-striker still monitors how he holds the club, there’s no reason for the rest of us to treat it as rookie-only territory.

Who is it for?

of SKLZ Grip Trainer it’s for anyone who has problems with slices, unstable contact or mid-motion rebound. Beginners can use it to learn proper hand placement. Experienced players can use it as a quick reminder before the round.

My opinion

When I was learning golf, the first thing I always looked at was the grip, stance and grip. If you can get those things down, you have a chance.

The grip is your only connection to the club. Everything that happens in the shot starts there. Do you? need another gadget? Maybe not. But if you’ve ever questioned your stamina or feel like a little something keeps getting in the way, it’s a cheap and practical place to start.

I also like it as an indoor training tool for players who need a way to practice in the winter. Grab a club every day and things won’t seem so foreign the next time you hit the course.

The only negative I see with the SKLZ Grip Trainer is the lack of training. Some great explainer videos from the company would be helpful, or some exercises and practical tips.

Let us know in the comments if you’re one of the 4,000 who bought one of these last month. Does it work for you?
