While the scorecards were clear, the fight itself took work. Serrano controlled the pace for most of the night, but Tellez made her earn it. Stepping in on short notice, Tellez showed composure early on and was willing to trade when openings appeared. She landed clean right hands in the first half of the fight, enough to cause visible swelling around Serrano’s right eye and disrupt the rhythm of the champion’s forward thrust.
Serrano responded as she usually does. She stayed busy, pushing behind the jab and consistently going to the body. The early rounds featured exchanges where Tellez had moments, but Serrano’s higher output and ability to reset the fight kept her in control. Tellez was wild, but she rarely dictated where the exchanges took place.
The fight started to turn more clearly in Serrano’s favor in the middle rounds. She increased her work rate, backing Tellez to the ropes and focusing on sustained body attacks. In a strong fifth round, Serrano hurt Tellez with repeated shots to the midsection, forcing a takedown and slowing the challenger’s counters. From that point on, Serrano finished more consistently and limited Tellez’s chances to reset.
Tellez stayed durable and had brief flashes in the middle rounds, but the pace carried her. Serrano controlled distance, initiating exchanges and closing rounds with combinations as the fight moved into the championship rounds. A break never came, but the momentum was no longer in doubt.
Serrano finished with a badly swollen right eye, proof that the fight was competitive and physical. Afterwards, she thanked Tellez for stepping in on short notice and praised her tenacity. The fighters hugged before the final round and again after the decision.
The win improved Serrano’s record to 48 4 1 and marked a successful homecoming defense in Puerto Rico. Tellez, now 13 1 1, suffered her first loss but showed durability and composure in her first world-level fight.
The event was promoted by MVP and streamed on DAZN.
