Alisson believes signing Mamardashvili would be a good idea for Liverpool

Alisson has revealed Liverpool spoke to him about their move for Giorgi Mamardashvili and believes the club must prepare for the future.

It has been a quiet summer for Liverpool, who are yet to make a signing following Martin Zubimendi’s decision to remain at Real Sociedad despite strong interest from the Reds.

New manager Arne Slot would surely have hoped to strengthen his squad, but with less than a week to go Liverpool will face a race against the clock to bring in any reinforcements.

However, one player who could arrive is Valencia goalkeeper Mamardashvili with Liverpool in talks over a potential £30m deal for the Georgia international, who would likely spend the season on loan in Spain again.

The Reds clearly have the future on their minds with this deal and have certainly started planning for life without Alisson, who still has three years left on his current contract at Anfield.

The Brazil international revealed that Liverpool spoke to him about signing the 23-year-old and he thought it was a good idea.

“The club has to prepare for the future,” he said The Times.

“We won’t last here forever, I’m getting old! No, for a goalkeeper I’m still young, I’ve got a lot of energy and I still have a lot to give for this club and I want to give as much as I can.

“They will also do it for different positions. We have so many important players out of contract and the club needs to organize itself for the future.

“I think it was a good idea. I knew it (Mamardashvili) before I went on social media and this is a good message for me because the club cares what I think. They are doing the right thing, but for my part , as long as I have my contract here and as long as I’m happy here, the club is happy with me, my family is happy here, (so) I’ll stay.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are out of contract next summer with Liverpool needing to make some big decisions about the trio who are and have been an important part of the club.

Alisson also revealed that he rejected approaches from Saudi Arabia, but added that he was open to the project at a later stage in his career.
