Alex Greenwood and Bunny Shaw both receive scans

Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor has provided an update on his squad’s fitness to face Everton in the Women’s Super League (WSL) this Sunday.

City captain Alex Greenwood was substituted off in the 30th minute of Thursday night’s UEFA Women’s Champions League meeting with St Polten. The England defender appeared to go down on his knees uncomfortably and was hauled off the ground in a bunk bed

“We’re waiting on a scan that’s going on today, so we’re just waiting on the results,” Taylor said. “We hope he’s OK because he’s been really crucial to what we’ve done this season. Our thoughts are with Alex, and we hope he’s quick.”

Despite losing their captain in the early stages of the game, City cruised to a 2-0 win over St Polten. The head coach praised his team’s resilience throughout the night.

“I have to give all the credit to the girls, they adjusted and got the job done,” Taylor said.

“We’re going through a tough time with injuries at the moment, but I don’t see any complaints from anyone. It is what it is, we have to deal with it and we’ll be in a much better place. It gives us a chance, we are adapting to the circumstances and we keep winning the game.

The injury woes don’t stop there for the Cityzens as Taylor confirmed that star forward Khadija Shaw will be out until the new year with a leg injury that “just needs a bit more investigation”. The head coach confirmed that Shaw will receive scans to reveal the extent of the problem.

The City boss also provided an update on Jill Roord, who did not feature in the midweek clash with St Polten.

“There was an opportunity to use her last night and we really didn’t want to. We didn’t have to in the end, which is good for her,” Taylor commented.

The 51-year-old gave the green light to Chloe Kelly, who will be available for Sunday’s WSL meeting. “Chloe trained today and she looked good,” Taylor said. “If he comes in unscathed tomorrow, I think he’s an option for us at the weekend as well.”
