The Houston Astros’ streak of seven straight ALCS appearances ended this season when they were swept in the wild-card round.

After winning the AL West for the fourth consecutive year, the Astros were eliminated by the Detroit Tigers.

Now that the season is over, the longtime Astros star has hit free agency and may be playing for someone other than Houston in 2025.

Heading to the open market, third baseman Alex Bregman is ready to switch positions to the other side of the diamond, according to his agent.

“Scott Boras said Bregman is ready to move to second base next season,” said Bob Nightingale of USA Today via the B/R Walk-Off .

Bregman had another solid regular season with the Astros in 2024, batting .260 with 26 home runs, 75 RBI and a .768 OPS.

After playing his entire career with the Astros after making his MLB debut in 2016, it would be odd to see him in any other uniform come the 2025 season.

Bregman won two World Series titles with the Astros in 2017 and 2022.

News that he’s willing to switch positions could mean he’s been in talks with a team that isn’t looking for a third baseman.

Bregman is one of many big-name players testing free agency this offseason, and he’ll be one fans will likely be keeping a close eye on.
