He lost more decisively to Ortiz in their showdown in February 2022. It was a one-sided 10-round unanimous decision loss for Albright. In contrast, Nahir got close to Keyshawn in October 2023.
“It’s a good fight for the fans, and a good fight for both of them,” Nahir Albright said. MillCity Boxing on Davis-Ortiz. “They’re going to get a big bag and fight on one of the biggest cards to start the year.
“I’m going with Keyshawn on that one. I think he’s going to stick it out. I think his chin is questionable. I think Keyshawn can catch him. Yeah, for sure,” Nahir said when asked if he thinks Keyshawn is the “durable” fighter than Jamaine.
Ortiz was injured in his fight against Joseph Adorno in April 2021. He was dropped twice in that fight. In Jamaine’s showdown against Antonio Moran in September 2023, he was injured on a couple of occasions in rounds two and five. However, those fights were in the lightweight division. We don’t know if going down to 135 took anything out of Ortiz in those fights. Since moving up to 140, he hasn’t shown any chin issues.
“They’re pretty even in skill. Keyshawn has more dog, and I feel like. Ortiz’s chin, I don’t know. Probably Keyshawn,” Albright said when asked who has more power between Davis and Jamaine. “Ortiz has speed, movement and agility.”
There is not much difference in power between them. Davis may have a little more power, but he’s not a big puncher, or at least he wasn’t a lightweight. Jamaine has enough pop in his shots to be a threat. What makes him risky for Keyshawn is his speed and combo punch.
Albright did a good job of avoiding Ortiz’s shots in their February 2022 fight, but he spent too much time not trying to land. His focus on dodging Jamaine’s punches cost him the fight as there was too much dodging and not enough throwing back.
Keyshawn doesn’t have that kind of defense, and he has too much pride to run around like Nahir did against Ortiz. However, Davis went into defense mode late in his fight against Andy Cruz in the 2020 Olympics. When Cruz started attacking Keyshawn with combinations in the third round, he got on his bike and stopped fighting.
That fight offered a glimpse into Davis’ mental makeup: He’s not comfortable being hit with combinations. That was years ago, so maybe he’s changed since then. His opposition was too lackluster as a pro to know if he had gotten stronger mentally.
“I think Keyshawn will take it. This fight is Ortiz’s last shot as far as getting a big fight. So, he’s not on that run thing. He’s going to come, they’re going to war, and may the best man win. That’s how it’s going to go. I don’t see him just running around. He knows what Albright is at stake.
It’s not just Jamaine with a lot at stake in this battle; Keyshawn also has a lot on the line for this contest as he is coming off a tough weigh-in for his canceled fight against Edwin De Los Santos.
Davis will have been out of the ring for 11 1/2 months with nothing to show for it, and he’s never fought any higher-level fighters, though he’s been hyped for his 2020 Olympic silver medal.
Top Rank took care of Keyshawn and didn’t throw him to the wolves at 135 like they could have done. So, he is like a new car that has never been driven on the highway. It is essentially garaged and occasionally warmed up.
