South Africa beat India in a thriller
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, South Africa dominated the Indian team. The bowlers were on the money and dismissed the opening duo early in the innings.
They were brilliant with their lines and lengths and kept the pressure on the Indian batsmen. A brilliant performance by the bowlers ensured that India did not score big as they were restricted to 124/6.
Trailing in total, the South African batsmen looked completely clueless against Varun Chakraborty, who had taken 5 wickets. However, Tristan Stubbs batted brilliantly alongside Gerald Coetzee to see the Proteas across the finish line.
I thought we bowled very well – Aiden Markram
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Aiden Markram praised the bowlers for doing a great job and executing their plans really well. He said:
“I thought we bowled really well, we had some really good schemes and our bowlers bowled really well.”
Aiden Markram, however, was disappointed with South Africa’s batting performance and said losing wickets in overs made them look poor. He said:
“From a batting point of view, you want to crack him in the middle, but it didn’t work out. Sometimes when we lose wickets in a cluster, it doesn’t look good. We have to take it on the chin. , we will definitely continue our brand of cricket.”
Aiden Markram later heaped praise on Tristan Stubbs, Gerald Coetzee and other youngsters and expressed his delight at the win. Aiden Markram elaborated:
“(On Stubbs and Coetzee) They come in after the break, it’s good to see the fire in their bellies. Of course, I’m really proud, Simelan and Peter’s role with the ball was great. All the lads in the younger side, They’ve inspired the older lads. We’ve got to get a game every now and then to level the series. “
South Africa had lost their first T20I after struggling with both bat and ball
South Africa suffered a massive 61-run defeat in the first T20I, struggling to match India’s magnificent performance. Chasing a steep target of 203, South Africa lost momentum early with the first dismissal of captain Aiden Markram. Ryan Rickelton tried to mount a counter-attack, hitting 11 balls with three boundaries and a six in 21, but was dismissed by Varun Chakravarty.
Heinrich Klaasen’s knock of 22 from 25 overs offered some resistance, but with the wickets swirling around him, he too fell prey to Chakravarthy, leaving South Africa in dire straits.
David Miller also failed to find his rhythm and managed just 18 off 22 balls before striking Avesh Khan. Gerald Coetzee showed aggressive batting and hit a quick-fire 23 off 11 balls, including three sixes, but by then the target was a long way off.
Varun Chakraborty and Ravi Bishnoi caused constant problems, picking up three wickets each and stifling the scoring potential of the middle order.
In the bowling department, Gerald Coetzee took three wickets and Marco Jansen bowled economically, taking 1 for 24 in four overs. However, the Indian batting attack, led by Sanju Samson’s scorching century, left South Africa with plenty to chase.
