Abraham ‘Super’ Nova will face Riyadh as a substitute opponent in Riyadh on August 16. The two will fight on the Moses Itauma against Dillian Whyte Undercard. The event is shown on Dazn.
Abraham Nova: replacement opponent
The always tough veteran Nova (24-3-1, 17 COs) replaces Anthony Cacace as Ford’s opponent after the Irish fighter sustained an injury and had to pull out.
Mike Coppinger broke the news at Abraham Nova who goes in as the replacement opponent of Raymond Ford to fight.
Nova, 31, lost two out of his last four battles O’Shaqui Foster and Andres Cortes. However, both defeats were controversial as Nova surpassed them and landed the better shots. Those losses have shown how difficult it is for B-side fighters to get the nod when they fight against hip guys. If Nova can regain the form he has shown against Foster and Cortes, he has the chance to beat Ford.
The Ford (17-1-1, 8 cost) battle on one month notice is a difficult question for Nova. It is supposed to be a 12-round. It is unclear whether it will be reduced to 10 now that the cockat is no longer fighting.
Ford, 26, has won his last two fights since losing against Nick Ball last year with a 12-round decision. There was nothing controversial about that battle. Ball knocked out Ford and dominated itself with his power and constant forward pressure. It was the first time in Ford’s career when he met a better puncher than himself.
In Ford’s struggle for that, he was seconds away from the loss of Otabek Kholmatov when the referee suddenly stopped the fight, giving him a questionable knockout of the 12th round. It was a strange downtime that Ford saved from a certain loss. He took a lot of punishment from the harder Kholmatov in battle, and was happy to win.
What may have given Ford problems was to jump back into the ring just three months later to tackle Nick Ball in June 2024. It was an old-school type of quick ring. Normally, fighters are not fighting as soon as they were in a war like the one that Raymond was against Kholmatov.
