Coach Abel Sanchez says the strength of Canelo Alvarez will take “its toll” on Terence Crawford against the sixth round, leading to the Mexican superstar “cruising” to the victory on September 13.
Sanchez believes that Crawford (41-0, 31 COs) will be slower because of the weight he is packed, and Canelo will utilize his lack of speed by beating him with his heavy shots.
An error was an error
“Terence is a great talent, but we have weight divisions for a reason. If Terence fought two or three guys at that weight to prepare for Canelo, I think it would be a better struggle,” Abel Sanchez said Secondsand pointed out that Terence Crawford’s failure to get used to the Super Middleweight Division could cost him against Canelo Alvarez on September 13.
Abel’s remark about Crawford makes a mistake not to get some tune-ups at 168 is what many people say. He should have used the 13 months after his last battle to push two or three tune-ups on 168. Even if it was soft opponents, Crawford should still have fought. It is clear why he did not. Crawford did not want to be exposed by being seen struggling or potentially beating.
Canelo’s power will overwhelm Crawford
“The power and size of Canelo will take its toll on Crawford in the middle of the fight, and I think Canelo is sailing to a win,” Sanchez said. ‘Terence is now fighting a big truck. It is he (Canelo) who carries you with his size. Once he starts hitting him (Crawford), he will carry him. ‘
This is going to be a new experience for Crawford that is hit by Canelo, as he was not hit against Israil Madrimov last year in his debut on 154. Madrimov just touched Crawford and did not put his entire power in the shots for fear that he would be counteracted. Canelo will hit Crawford as hard as possible, and it will be a shock to him.
Terence’s weight gain causes problems
“If he carries him, Terence, which draws the weight on it, may not be the fastest,” Sanchez said. “He might not be the strongest at that weight. He had problems with the 154 -pound champion (Israil Madrimov) he beat. I find it hard to believe that Crawford can hurt him. ‘
Nebraska native Crawford can get Canelo’s attention with his shots, but he won’t be able to stay in the bag to add to it without paying a heavy price. Backing back through Canelo will be an unpleasant experience, especially if it is to the body. He does not want to allow Canelo to hit him for the liver or the solar plague for a long time without getting on his bike.
Crawford’s lack of knockout power
“Madrimov has shown us that Crawford does not have the one -time knockout. He will have to put pushes together,” says Abel. “He can put bumps together at 147 and 140, and it’s going to keep it quickly.”
Even at 140, Crawford did not have one -time power. He had to take off his opponents in that weight class, and the same at 147. Most of the knockouts he got was in fighting where he hit many rounds on his opponents before stopping them. The only early stop that Terence got against the faded British fighters, Amir Khan and Kell Brook.
“Against Canelo, they will be a little slower. So, Canelo will be able to see them. He will be able to make them time. Maybe he will not necessarily hit himself with a shot he could touch Khan, but he will be able to touch him. Once he has touched him, it is a battle of 12 round. It’s a 12 round where Canelo can just turn, and not get scared, ‘he said.
Age and inactivity hurt Crawford’s speed
We already see the loss of speed in Crawford with the Shadow Boxing and Pad workouts. He was not as fast as he was in his last fight against Madrimov in 2024, and certainly not when he fought at 147. Soon on September 28, Crawford has been aged, and its inactivity over the past five years since 2020 has worsened.
