Norfolk, Virginia-Abdullah Mason (19-0, 17 COs) shone for the first time on Saturday night, and he did not disappoint. He demonstrated his excellent boxing skills and offered a show. Mason disassembled Jeremiah Nakathila and landed 51.4 percent of his strokes and landed him 75 to 26 in total bumps. The fight was stopped with one second in the fifth round because Nakathila said he was not in order and could not see from his left eye. Mason achieved his ninth consecutive knockout, and his total knockout percentage improved slightly to 89.4 percent.
WBO president Gustavo Olivieri posted on X, “Abdullah Mason looks better every time; sharper, smarter, more dangerous. He develops into a serious force … on his way to a WBO World Lightweight title.” He also placed the process for a vacant title. The WBO lightweight title became vacant when Keyshawn Davis was stripped of the title when he did not make weight by getting into 4.3 pounds over the 135 -pound lightweight boundary. The WBO FAX PROCESS, as highlighted by Olivieri:
1. Re: Vacant WBO lightweight title (135 pounds.)
For informative purposes, the WBO procedure is when a title is vacant:
The Championships Committee chooses the two best available contenders for the best (or in some cases the top four for a box) to compete with
2.. Once contenders are selected, they are allocated up to 30 days to negotiate (order) to finalize and sign a contract for the title match.
3.. If no agreement is reached within that period, WBO president or any of the parties can call a bursary bid, which must take place ten days later.
4.. Any of the parties may call a wallet bid procedure at any time during the negotiation phase.
5. If a wallet bid is held, the winner of a bid must do the match in a period of no less than 45 days or more than 90 days after the rating of the promotional rights.
The WBO currently has Sam Noakes Number One and Abdullah Mason as number two on the light -ranked list. If the top-ranked fighters matched each other, as mentioned above, it would mean a fight between Noakes and Mason. The exact question was asked Mason at the press conference after the fight, and he said it was a match he wanted. He wants to become a champion and claims he will fight someone to become champion. He is also willing to go to the UK to face Noakes if necessary.
Mason looks ready for the next step. He considers Norfolk as a second home after the ovation he received, but expressed interest in the head of his hometown Cleveland, Ohio. Everything will soon point to a championship match. Abdullah has a very bright future; He is a professional inside and outside the ring. He is committed to his craft and has great support from his family. His father and brothers are with him at all times – during the camp and vessel. Abdullah’s event came earlier than expected, but now that it’s here, he must seize the moment and strive for greatness.
