Lightweight prospect Abdullah Mason will take on knockout artist Yohan Vasquez (26-5, 21 KOs) in an eight-round bout on November 8 on the undercard of Keyshawn Davis vs. Gustavo Lemos in an ESPN card at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. .
A Step Up for Mason
According to @keepit100boxin2 , Mason (15-0, 13 KOs) will face the 30-year-old Vasquez, who has lost three of his last four fights. It’s a step up, but not significant for the 20-year-old Mason from his last two fights against Mike Ohan Jr. and Luis Lebron doesn’t.
Vasquez will have a tough time winning this fight unless he can land a big shot early in the fight before the 5’9″ southpaw Mason has had enough time to start picking him apart. Mason is getting hit, but he hasn’t met anyone with the chin to stay in the fight long enough for them to test him.
The way Mason is currently fighting, he should face Keyshawn (11-0, 7 KOs) in the main event. Top Rank will keep Keyshawn and Mason apart to ensure they have two streams of income. Keyshawn looked too shaky for Top Rank to risk putting him in with Mason and watch him get destroyed.
Top Rank has learned that Mason is the better talent than the 2020 Olympic silver medalist, but it looks like they’re trying to do the best they can with the struggling Virginia native. He’s looked hellish lately, and his last fight against Miguel Madueno didn’t look like a boxing fight. That was pure WWE garbage from Keyshawn. I was waiting for Keyshawn to use a suplex slam on Madueno, and he was in pure wrestling mode the entire fight.
Mason’s Rising Stardom
Mason stole the show again from Keyshawn and the main clash between Shakur Stevenson and Artem Harutyunyan. Those two stood around and watched Mason in amazement.
Mason expected to step it up to 10-round fights after this, but it won’t make a difference. He’s striking out everyone and has recorded five straight shutouts. The last guy to go the distance against Mason was Cesar Villaraga last August in a six round loss.
Mason has Mike Ohan Jr. in the second round on August 17th in a total mismatch, stealing the show from the headliner between super middleweights Christian Mbilli and Sergiy Derevyanchenko at the Videotron in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.
