Did an iron change changed in the spring of 2021 Scottie Scheffler’s career course? We will never know but this story adds context.

Let us present this under a story that was not a story four years ago, but it really makes sense now.
It was the beginning of the 2021 season and at that time a new agent, free Scottie Scheffler was a promise player but not so much world dominance. He had an open bag consisting of a ping G400 LST, Callaway Mavrik 3+, Srixon UT, ZX7 (4), 5-PW TM P730 and some craft wedges.
Baganta quite stylish for a free agent, but from a specific perspective was a pretty wild scene.
Why? Because all Scheffler’s handcuffs were an inch above standard length. And the shake weight was well over D6, which for non-gearheads is like having a heavy weight at the end of a pen. Plus, these cuffs were all a flat hair.
You see, Scheffler we know today is one of the best Irona players ever, but at the beginning of 2021 he was not even in the Top 75.
Then there was a conversation between the mountains, his coach, Randy Smith and Scheffler at the WM Phoenix Open that may have been the most important conversation of Scheffler’s career dresses: Seed can we do to clear this iron game?
Adjustment?
Fixing was a big difference that would be a massive adjustment for most, but a quiet for Scheffler, and required very little thinking about some general principles appropriate. Trim the entire set (3-lw) by 0.75 and bend them a straight hair to adjust the shaking weights on D4. Simple. No different than you will see in your real local specifics.
The result?
Scheffler’s worst year in strokes won: the approach that when the pass was the fourth, and it was no. The last three years.
Seed can we learn from this?
In simple words, “go to fit” is the simple way to go out, but it goes a little deeper than that.
Scheffler was already a world -class player with handcuffs that were very long and very heavy, but when Scheffler and his team were able to get honest about where they wanted to go, it took an open mind from the player to make him possible. In the tour, it is difficult to tell a player “Your handcuffs are very long”, as 99.9 percent of these players have been working with world class adapters since they were in high school. My Hunch is that with a talent like Scheffler, maybe no one considered addressing that part of the bag because, from the outside, it seemed like everything was fine. This switch came as a result of some reps tour, Scheffler and his team by solving the problem together.
Funny funny how things happen in a PGA Tour range. Some changes may mean nothing, but it may have changed history.
