The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for the third straight season, finishing with 81 wins and 81 losses.
Since winning the World Series in 2018, the Red Sox have made the playoffs just once in the past six seasons.
The American League East division is often considered the best division in baseball, so the Red Sox will need to stay aggressive this offseason to stay competitive.
They’re trying to do that by meeting top free agent prospect Juan Soto, and Red Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendricks revealed his thoughts on the team’s meeting with Soto.
“All I know is we’re going full metal and hopefully we can make those big moves because it’s the AL East,” Hendricks said.
“For all I know, we’re going full metal.”

Hendricks notes that from a roster allocation standpoint, the move might not make much sense, but how often does a player of Soto’s caliber come in free agency at his age?
Soto is only 26 years old and has already played for three teams, including the Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres and New York Yankees.
2024 was Soto’s first season with the Yankees, and he batted .288 with 41 home runs, 109 RBIs and a .989 OPS while leading the Yankees’ offense in the postseason.
If the Red Sox were able to sign Soto, they would not only be getting one of the best players in baseball, they would be taking one of the best players in baseball from their division rival.
The Red Sox will do whatever it takes to get Soto, but that can be said for the many different teams chasing him.
