Started almost four years ago – on April 12, 2021, at 11:13 PM et, to be accurate. I was a month at my new concert as a tournament manager for Callaway and had posted ‘what’s in the first bag with the new device on my Instagram account.
At that point, from my days working on WRX, it was not uncommon for a tournament to reach an impartial opinion, but in this case, it was from a new Callaway staff at Korn Ferry Tour fighting for his career professional. Max Grayserman at the time was an unknown relative among the general public of Golf, but for those of us who closely follow Golf Tour, there was a promise of greatness that was very close to fulfilling.
His message was this – in fact, there was no doubt, just a statement.
“Currently in a Title T Grind, trying to get the boys to make me a similar quarrel, they took a jaw and shaved some.”
In the same conversation, I discussed a craft wedge I had just received (which I couldn’t use because I was now a Callaway boy), I shared the pictures and the right in the queue he said: “Talking about the craft with them on Monday afternoon … got a freedom in my wedge bag, but I’m a loyal Callaway. them. “
It started there.
And from that day before, Max became a DM friend who came available when I was expecting my children to fall asleep. We have spoken of wedge grind, 5-drilli strategy, iron swelling, mini-drivers, ball testing and any other category of gears you can think about.
Not all tournament players are “Gear Dorks”, of course. In my trips, most of them know what their equipment does, but do not have that deep curiosity of what is there. Chris Kirk is the one who comes to mind, he has a doctorate in what works for Chris Kirk. How sensitive is he? Well, he can hit a 5-when it is probably .25 Very flat (negligible) and show that it is flat because the ball starts 2 meters to the right of his desired window and does not start back in central line in time to satisfy. Give Chris a Trackman and he is watching seven or eight tiles below the data screen to get his information. Here are all the Nerdy numbers – dynamic attic, face on the path, rotary attic, etc.
Rahmbo is another who knows his equipment very well, but he is more of a ball boy in the air. Without any means of measurement, he knows that if you make a certain pace, the ball has to fly from a very specific window and finish in another. This is his point of control. I have seen him try new drivers several times, and in most cases, he can choose a gamer in like six shakes.

The truths that I can rely on the one hand – Greyserman, Charles Howell III, Akshay Bhatia, Tommy Fleetwood and, of course, Bryson.
I have my unique unique back and with many of them (some way more than others). For me, coming from the place where I did before I got into this business, is quite surreal. Howell and Fleetwood were gods for me – for years. CH3 especially – I have followed him since his days Ajga. Call him one of my dearest golf friends and make him be the boy with whom I have no accessories with equipment is wild. We can start a podcast gear on phone calls we have once or twice a week. Not a bad idea in fact.
The Max Grayserman relationship is definitely unique, though. This young man is just starting his career in PGA Tour and the conversations we have taken on a different form, especially when I still had a Callaway hat. I was not his tour of the tour, but an idea boy from the inside to confirm or deny what he was feeling. The Callaway Tour team had called/called it, and I learned a lot about adapting the tour based on the work they did with the max and the eventual conversations we would have after the fact.
There is something about what this game does to all of us, though, especially those with passion for clothing. A maximum text will/still would come in, and all I can do is smile because I know a deep shift, Nerd will go down.
What is the favorite part of my work?

I asked Max to comment on our relationship with Gear, and that is what he had to say:
JW: I’m comfortable to label you a gear outfit like me. When did your passion for equipment started? Was there a player or website designated that you followed to get your information?
