Terence Crawford says he should have been in this position and had to get the Canelo Alvarez fight, “A Long ago,” But people didn’t want him to have this opportunity. It was only through the help of Turki Alalshikh that he had the chance to fight Canelo (63-2-2, 39 COs) for his undisputed super-middleweight championship on this Saturday 13 September.
Crawford (41-0, 31 COs) does not say who the ‘People’ If it didn’t want him to fight against Canelo. He also did not mention why he did not move up to the Super Middleweight title to work his way to a title against Canelo ‘a long time ago’ when David Benavidez and David Morrell were still in the division, causing devastation.
Why did Crawford choose to stay at 147, rather than jumping up to 168 to earn the fight with Canelo instead of waiting for Turki to give it to him? Does he have a unrealistic feeling of justiceperhaps? The only one that held back Crawford was himself, by not moving to the super -middle weight to align like the other hard workers, and goes through the Gauntlet to meet with King Canelo.
Crawford’s bitterness
“I should have been here long ago, But it’s great to get to know where I should have been, ”said Terence Crawford to Ring Magazine, with a cryptic remark about his fight on Saturday against Canelo Alvarez.
This is not where Crawford should have been because he did not earn the title fight against the undisputed super -middleweight champion, Canelo. He does not have to fight one of the contenders at 168 to earn the fight against Alvarez for his four belts.
In this world you have to earn things, and the reason why Crawford did not get the Canelo battle “a long time ago” was that he never chose to move to 168 to earn it in the old-fashioned way.
For Crawford to fight for all the marbles in 168 in Canelo, he would have to defeat these contenders to get to that place: Christian Mbilli, Osleys Iglesias, Hamzah Sheeraz and Diego Pacheco.
Bypass the system
Instead, Turki Alalshikh Crawford gave the battle with Canelo. In other words, Crawford takes the back door up and bypasses the normal contender route that might make him weed.
“I’m going to go there and do my thing and become a three times undisputed champion of the world,” says Crawford. “People didn’t want it for me (to fight against Canelo). It is not that this could not happen. They didn’t want it to happen, And Turki made it happen, he and the Riyadh season. “
It wasn’t that “people” didn’t want Crawford to fight against Canelo. It was a situation where Crawford fought at 147 and then 154, while Canelo was two divisions above him on 168. Why would anyone think of a fight between Crawford and Canelo when they were two to three divisions of each other?
It sounds like Terence doesn’t see things clearly. Fighters normally compete in individual weight classes, and freak fights rarely occur between fighters 2 to 3 sections of each other. For Crawford to be bitter sounding, to talk about people who don’t “happen”, he seems to have expected the preferred treatment to get a mega battle he didn’t deserve.
There would not have been a problem if Crawford had done the hard work, moved up to 168 and defeated these three top contenders to earn the Canelo battle:
- Christian Milli: WBC Mandatory
- Osleys Iglesias: IBF COMPULSORY
- Jose Armando Resendiz: WBA Intermediate
