A decade in the making: Bettinardi HLX 6.0 Wedges

  • Bettinardi Golf has released their new HLX 6.0 wedges.
  • The wedges feature redesigned grooves and geometry.
  • Available for pre-order on January 22nd and in stores on February 20th with an MSRP of $199

Although mostly known for it precision ground pawsBettinardi has been building wedges since 2014. Don’t forget those too made some iron kits last year as well.

Today, Bettinardi unveiled the sixth incarnation of their forged wedges. The Bettinardi HLX 6.0 wedge represents Bettinardi’s latest set of design changes.

According to Bettinardi President Sam Bettinardi, this is their best wedge to date.

“Since 1998, Bettinardi Golf has built a reputation for producing the best balls in the world. We are proud to bring that same commitment to heritage, innovation and craftsmanship to our evolving wedge line-up, producing the most versatile, best-performing line to date.” Sam Bettinardi, President of Bettinardi Golf

Let’s take a look at the new Bettinardi HLX 6.0 wedge and see why you should consider adding one, or even two, to your bag.

Bettinardi HLX 6.0 Wedge Specifications

As you can see from the chart above, Bettinardi offers the HLX 6.0 a wide range of loft options. Left- and right-handed players have all the same options, except for the exclusive RH 48-degree option.

There are four axle options:

  • KBS High Rev 2.0
  • True Temper Dynamic Gold S400
  • True Temper Dynamic Gold S400
  • Nippon Shaft Pro Modus 115 ($15 Free)

The stock cap for the HLX 6.0 wedge is a Bettinardi brand Golf Pride Tour Velvet.

Bettinard’s wedge is ground

Bettinardi offers their highest loft wedges with two grind options. Here are Bettinardi’s descriptions of their C and RJ fights.

C grind

The C-Grind nail features a classic design ideal for players who prefer straight shots with a square face. It helps players achieve a clean shot by reducing bounce on tighter lies, allowing for better control and accuracy at contact.

TYPE OF SWING: Shallow/sweeping, neutral, full motion

RJ grind

The RJ Grind offers a versatile, high bounce heel designed for golfers who want to excel with a variety of shots around the green. Its improved heel, toe and trailing edge relief make it the most adaptable grind in the lineup, offering exceptional playability for a wide range of conditions and shot types.

TYPE OF SWING: Shallow/clear, neutral, steep/digging

What’s new with the Bettinardi HLX 6.0?

Bettinardi has made some major modifications to the shape, and ultimately, the performance of the HLX 6.0 wedge.

First, the center of gravity was raised at the lowest flight of the ball. No, I didn’t get it backwards. Bettinardi wants the HLX 6.0 to drop the ball a little lower.

While a lower launch approach shot may seem like an odd goal, Bettinardi has also changed the HLX 6.0’s High Helix Cut groove pattern to promote more spin.

A lower release shot that bites when it hits the green seems like a good way for someone (me) to improve their short game.

Bettinardi also changed the shape of the end of their RJ wedges to improve field interaction and shot stability.

Would you play a Bettinardi wedge?

What are your thoughts on Bettinard as a wedge company? Are you curious about these new forged 1020 carbon steel wedges? Would you play one?

There are a few other things to consider when making your decision.

First, Bettinardi has priced their HLX 6.0 wedges at $199, a $21 reduction over the price of the HLX 5.0. While not cheap, this price makes Bettinardi wedges competitively priced with wedges from other companies.

(Bettinardi 5.0 wedges are, by the way currently on sale for $149.99 at Bettinardi.com.)

The second thing to consider when considering Bettinardi wedges is that they can be customized to your specifications when you order them online from Bettinardi. If you happen to be in the Chicago area, you can plan a wedge fitting session in Bettinardi’s Studio B.

If you want really fancy wedges, keep an eye out beehive for limited editions. They released a bunch of custom 5.0 HLX kits in 2024 and I expect to see the same for the HLX 6.0 in 2025.

The HLX 6.0 will be available on February 20th at authorized retailers and on Bettinardi.com
