Taskin Ahmed showed yet again why cricket is called a gentleman’s game with a brilliant gesture during the ongoing first India vs Bangladesh Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday (September 19).
The incident happened during the third session when the Bangladeshi athlete was bowling with the veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Fast bowlers usually don’t hit bouncers to tailenders or lower order batters. Even if they do, they usually play so that lower level players don’t get hit.
As for Ashwin, he is not a typical seamer and is more than a comfortable batsman. This could be one of the reasons why Tashkin decided to target Ahmed’s spinner with a ruthless bounce. The incident happened in the 49th over when the right-arm pacer was bowling for Ashwin.
In the fifth ball, he hit a bouncer that was directed towards Ashwin’s helmet. The right-handed batsman was startled by the short delivery and took his eyes off the ball. Fortunately, the ball only hit the front of the helmet before flying towards the slip cordon.
As soon as the ball hit the helmet, Tashkin Ahmed raised his hand to apologize to the veteran cricketer. The umpire was quick to check on Ashwin and luckily all was well. Physiotherapy also ran out immediately, but Ashwin was fine and play resumed soon.

Talking about the game, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the ship for India on the opening day of the first IND vs BAN Test. India were reeling at 144 for 6 at one stage when Ashwin and Jadeja joined hands. Both the players are well prepared and will look to bail India out of trouble.
