“Manny Pacquiao Promotions CEO Jas Mathur tells The Ring that Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao II is no longer moving forward in September,” Ring Magazine reported on X.
Mathur added that Pacquiao has already started exploring other options for his next fight in 2026.
The rematch was pegged for a September date in Las Vegas and would be the first meeting between the two boxing legends since Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision in their record-breaking 2015 showdown.
Mathur said the fight unraveled due to issues on Mayweather’s side, including legal disputes, contract breaches and financial complications. While those issues have stalled negotiations, Pacquiao’s team has not completely ruled out revisiting the fight if circumstances change.
Instead, the focus has shifted to another opponent for the 47-year-old former eight-division world champion before the end of the year. No replacement opponent has been identified.
The rematch was billed as one of the biggest nostalgia events in boxing, reviving a rivalry that generated record revenue when they first met in 2015. With those plans now in place, attention turns to who Pacquiao will instead face before the end of the year.
Pacquiao recently returned to the ring after coming out of retirement, while Mayweather has remained active primarily in exhibition bouts since ending his professional career with a perfect 50-0 record.
