MotoGP practice results with Marco Bezeci fastest after Alex Marquez’s red flag crash at Dutch GP

Despite warm conditions in the northern part of the Netherlands during the weekend’s first practice session, the afternoon qualifying session took a turn for the worse, with the T.T. District temperature has reached above 35 degrees Celsius.

Although the lap record was broken last time in practice in the Czech Republic, the warm track temperatures in Assen meant that Francesco Bagnaia 2024’s 1:30.540 of 1:30.540 remained safe at least until Saturday.

Alex Marquez brought out the red flag and Marco Bezecchi put his pace into practice.

As the afternoon attack began in Assen, VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio was the first rider to stake his claim for top spot on the timesheets, more than six-tenths off Bezzicci’s morning time.

The lap times fell quickly, with the Italian rider back in the pits a few laps later to take the top spot of the session ahead of KTM’s Pedro Acosta and his Bezcicci Factory Aprilia team-mate Jorge Martin.

Martin set the fastest time of the session with 35 minutes remaining on the stopwatch, while MotoGP rookie Torak Razgatlioglu was able to set the ninth fastest time on the grid in Q2.

The Aprilia riders began to flex their muscles after the middle of the session. Ai Ogura grabbed the top spot as Raul Fernandes moved into P3, giving the Noale-based manufacturer a provisional one-two-three-four-four.

Reigning world champion Marc Marquez looked to challenge the pace in the heat at Assen, and was 1.4s behind in P14 after the first 40 minutes. However, after the attacks began, it quickly became more competitive.

With 15 minutes to go before the first yellow flag of the session, Fermin Aldeguer suffered a catastrophic incident between laps 11 and 12. The Spaniard got off the bike and into the gravel, which sent him into the air and back down several times.

After race control confirmed that the young Murcian rider had been taken to a medical centre, Aprilia continued to dominate the final sector of the TT sector. When some riders want to dethrone them, the last part of the lap is out of reach.

Martin drew several yellow flags before being red flagged for a collision with Alex Marquez at 11. The Spaniard indicated he was conscious, but appeared to be in serious pain as he left the circuit.

Bezecchi finished the session on the timesheets, with Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez and KTM’s Pedro Acosta completing the top three.
