Bangladesh they faced a significant setback before the upcoming one-off test Zimbabwe after the star goalkeeper Lytton Das excluded. An experienced batsman against an outlier during an ODI series AustraliaHe will not recover in time for the red ball match in Harare.
Why will Litton Das miss the one-off Test?
Litto’s absence comes after he injured his left calf in the ODI against Australia in Dhaka. The injury had already forced him out of the recently concluded three-match T20I series at Chattogram, and further medical assessments confirmed that he would not be fit enough to play in the Test match scheduled to begin on June 28.
according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)their medical staff concluded that the recovery window available before the Zimbabwe Test was too short for Litton to regain full fitness. Rather than reinstate one of the team’s most important hitters, the selectors opted to sit him out and focus on his rehabilitation.
The timing is unfortunate for Bangladesh as Litton has been a key figure across formats. His experience behind the stumps and ability to anchor the batting line-up would be valuable in overseas conditions.
The multi-format tour begins with a one-off Test at Harare Sports Club before moving on to a three-match ODI series at the same venue on July 6, 9 and 11. The action will then move to Bulawayo for three T20Is on July 15, 17 and 19. Litton along with the fast bowler Tashkin Ahmedis also expected to miss the T20I leg due to commitments Lanka Premier League.
A replacement for Litton was announced
With Litton unavailable, the Bangladesh National Selection Board called up the 27-year-old wicketkeeper. Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan. The move gives Mahidula an opportunity to establish himself in the national set-up as Bangladesh look to maintain balance in both the batting and wicketkeeping departments. His inclusion ensures that the touring party has a similar replacement who can handle dual responsibilities.
Bangladesh have already started preparations for their tour of Zimbabwe, with the first group of Test players leaving on Sunday. The members, who featured in the recent white-ball series against Australia, are expected to link up with the team shortly.

Phil Simmons underlines Bangladesh’s commitment to Test identity
Although Litto’s injury changed Bangladesh’s plans, head coach Phil Simmons made it clear that the team’s broader focus remains unchanged. Speaking ahead of the tour, Simmons said he was more interested in the style and standard of cricket his team produced than the end result.
The coach pointed to Bangladesh’s recent performances against Pakistan as evidence of the brand of Test cricket the team wants to adopt and insisted the approach will continue against Zimbabwe regardless of the opposition.
Simmons also described the Harare Test as useful preparation for a tough tour of Australia later this year, but warned that the team still had a lot of work to do before facing a tougher task. For now, Bangladesh’s focus is on putting together a disciplined performance in Zimbabwe despite the absence of one of their big stars.
“Those things don’t bother me these days. The point is we’ve started playing cricket the way we want to play it, especially in Test cricket. The last two matches against Pakistan have shown how we want to play Test cricket. We’ll go to Zimbabwe and try to play. It’s good preparation. We’ve got time to get back to the Australian Test series. There’s a lot more work to do before we go to Australia. Simmons said in a statement.
