Want to own a Grass League expansion franchise? Applications are open

The Grass League, the high-stakes par-3 circuit, just announced the opening of its expansion franchise application process as two new teams are set to join the league. The new franchises would be the 12th and 13th teams in the Grass League.

Applications are being accepted from now until September 1 with new franchise owners to be announced in December. Potential ownership groups can access all relevant documentation and application materials through the Grass League expansion franchise data room.

Submissions and questions should be directed to (email protected).

Who should apply?

Interested in starting a Grass League franchise?

Don’t wait around. The league has already received significant inbound interest from private equity groups, professional athletes, celebrities, some of golf’s biggest content creators and established professional players.

The Grass League is looking for ownership groups that bring three key qualifications: the financial means to operate a professional sports franchise, deep ties to the golf community and strong roots in the market they propose to represent.

The league also places significant weight on ownership groups coming up with an integrated digital presence and a clear plan for engaging social media and using content creators to drive fan interest and brand visibility.

Here are the 11 teams already in the Grass League:

“We’re not just selling franchises — we’re choosing partners that will help build this league market by market,” said Michael Prindiville, president of the Grass League. “The right ownership group doesn’t just write a check. They bring credibility to the golf world, influence in their local market and a media-forward mentality that matches how the Grass League reaches its audience.”

What is Grass League? Why should you be interested?

For all LIV and TGL talk, Grass League could be the real disruptor.

It’s par-3, two-man scrimmage golf under the lights, redefining short-format competition as an independent sport. It’s fast, it’s modern, and it lets anyone compete—even our MyGolfSpy team got a shot at qualifying for the Grass Clippings Open and nearly made him among the pro and elite amateurs that make up the field.

The Grass League currently has a two-year broadcast deal with Golf Channel through 2027, with plans to expand the league’s schedule next season. The league’s championship events – the Grass Clippings Open, Summer Grind and the Grass League Championship – feature purses of up to $175,000, golf’s only live draft and a franchise-based competition structure unlike anything else in the sport.

It’s a completely different environment than golf has experienced before, and it’s getting bigger every year.

The league’s par-3 scramble format is a tremendous equalizer. Even players of modest skill can compete against guys who were on the Korn Ferry Tour. It’s informal but still competitive.

And the atmosphere around the tournaments is great. It feels like modern day golf much more than traditional, stuffy golf.
