World lead for Audrey Verreau in epic 800m in Stockholm. – runblogrun

World leader for Audrey Verreau

There were many highlights Bauhaus Stockholm Diamond League but the special one for me is women’s 800m. At the end of May Keeley spoke to GB Athletics writers and was inevitably asked if: 800m world record set by Jarmila Kratochvilova of Czechoslovakia: 1:53.28. on July 26, was possible, and specifically, could it happen this summer in London? Kelly cracked of course On March 3, 2002, Jolanda Ceplak set an indoor world record of 1:55.82. – Ironically Kelly’s birthday – earlier this year with a 1:54.87 run.

Keely gave a sensible answer to the British press. yes, it was possible. yes, he would like to break it London Diamond League; but it would depend on how he felt, the conditions etc. and he had other goals, like winning the European Championship.

in stockholm Keeley ran an excellent race, setting a new GB record of 1:54.33. The problem was that time in Stockholm was only worth second place. It was the winner Swiss Audrey Verron: 1:53.98, world leader, diamond league record and national record.

Hodgkinson looked to be in control of the race, letting Verreau take the lead, but tracked him closely before passing him on the home straight, but Verreau didn’t win and he found the speed and power to pass and hold off Hodgkinson to win by 0.35 seconds.

Wero “I still have to recycle. I’m still in shock from this speech. I was in great shape today, I was ready mentally and also physically, so it was a good day for me. My main goal was not to follow the pacemaker, but the race went that way, so I had to run right behind him. Once he was out, I decided to follow Keely, taking as long as possible. just now happened, but I’m so happy with my time and everything.”

Kili “Big respect to Audrey, it was an incredible race from her and she helped me run faster today, I was happy she pushed me throughout the race and then battled with me to the line at the end, but I won’t let that happen again. I didn’t expect it from him today and I thought he would come back to me, but it’s really great for me. The event is a lot faster now, I’ve run longer than 400m for the first time and 800m but I haven’t felt the 400m focus yet and now my focus is on the 80’s. I have a plan and it’s only June so there’s plenty of time in such a busy season that the European title will be such a great fight between us and it’s so much fun to be in such an exciting time as the 800m and I still believe in my goal.

Back that European Championships in Athleticsin Birmingham in Augustthe prospect of rematch is really exciting.
