Asked about Fury having another fight before he meets Joshua, Hearn made it clear he does not see the assignment as a dangerous one.
“I’m not crazy about him having another fight. I’m not, I’m not yelling and screaming about it,” Hearn said at tonight’s Josh Padley vs. Aqib Fiz fight said.
“If that’s what he feels he needs, he fights a guy he’ll beat.
“I don’t think it’s a terrible opponent, but by the way, why would you fight anyone of any threat?
“He just went 12 rounds with Makhmudov. It didn’t look fantastic, but he’s been out of the ring for a long time.
“I think it’s, you know, if that’s what he feels he needs, he fights a guy he’ll beat.
“I’m not afraid of this opponent at all. He will be absolutely fine.”
Fury returned to the ring in April after more than a year away from boxing and defeated Arslanbek Makhmudov over twelve rounds. Another win would keep him on track for a long-rumored clash with Joshua.
Hearn also indicated that he knows the identity of Fury’s next opponent, although he stopped short of revealing the name.
“I know who he’s fighting. I’m not going to say because it’s not my opponent,” Hearn said.
The Matchroom promoter’s view was clear: Fury’s next outing is designed to keep him active, and he expects the former heavyweight champion to get through it without any serious problems.
